Cincifatty

The Cincifatty Manifesto

At Cincifatty, we want to be in community as we all journey together to learn how to liberate ourselves from body shame, diet culture, and any/all of the oppressive forces that keep us small.

To that end, we have adopted a set of core mindsets:

  • Fat is a neutral descriptor (like brunette or tall)
  • All beings are worthy of dignity, respect, and love
  • Health is personally defined, multidimensional, and not required to be respected, loved, and accepted
  • Acceptance is the greatest gift we can offer ourselves and each other

Here’s what we think you will want to know about this community and how we’ll engage with one another:

The Cincifatty Dirty Dozen

  1. We will gather as a micro community that is representative of the diverse people of Greater Cincinnati. We welcome everyone and will center the experiences of fat bodied folks.
  2. Our body liberation journey will be intersectional. We will be actively anti-racist and seek to untangle ourselves from the social conditioning that harms us and tells us we are and others are not enough.
  3. It’s ok not to know, be ready, or “do it right.” There isn’t going to be “doing it right.” All you’ll need is a willingness to be in the discomfort of learning and healing and a desire to authentically connect.
  4. We will have fun and actively practice accessing our joy!
  5. We will meet each other and all beings with deep compassion. We will practice radical acceptance of what is knowing that change is inevitable and our acceptance must be without attachment.
  6. We will practice “the platinum rule” of treating others the way they want to be treated. We will honor the boundaries, autonomy, and learning edge of each community member.
  7. We will practice a Health at Every Size (HAES) mindset, knowing that diets don’t work and are dangerous with great risk to our bodies, minds, and spirits.
  8. We will communicate non-violently. Listen actively. Reflect in earnest. We will refrain from judgment, criticism, or advice without consent.
  9. We will engage in joyful, consentual movement. Being in active relationship with our body today and listening to what it needs.
  10. We will be kind. Including to ourselves. Kind is different from nice. It is open hearted, whole, real, and safe. Sometimes it includes saying “no.” It is in the highest good of all involved instead of just someone else we’re trying to please.
  11. We will expect and accept that each member of this community will have their own, personal definition of health and that the pursuit of health of ANY kind is not required to play with us.
  12. We know that any and all of these items may change over time as we learn.
